Meet Mr. ‘Shivaji’ - An Indian Constable who rescues woman from the clutches of rapists

City nights have become haunting for women and even minors now! Seldom happens when some ‘superhero’ arrives to save you from the chilly horror experience. The same happened when Railway Protection Force (RPF) Constable K Shivaji, jumped out of the moving train and sprinted into the adjacent coach to save a woman getting assaulted screaming for help.

Late on Monday night, Constable K Shivaji was aboard an MRTS train along with his night patrol squad that also comprised a sub-inspector and another constable. At around 11.45 pm, they heard screams from the ladies’ compartment. The train had just left the Chintadripet station.

Since MRTS trains don’t allow for inter-coach movement, Shivaji waited till the train slowed down at Park Town station. As the train arrived at the new station, Shivaji hopped out, got onto the other coach and managed to catch S Satyaraj while he was trying to sexually assault a 26-year-old woman. In the meantime, his patrol team joined him. Satyaraj has been arrested and booked for rape.

The woman he was trying to assault was found unconscious with her lips bleeding and her clothes torn. She was admitted to hospital where her condition was said to be stable. GRP IGP Pon Manickavel met the woman at the hospital and also announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for the RPF man.
The accused, 26-year-old S Satyaraj, was booked for attempt to rape and arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) attached to the Chennai Egmore Railway Station. He was taken to court and imprisoned.
Kudos to Constable K Shivaji and his squad for showing guts to fight back the crime. India needs such superheroes to come over every aspect of ‘horrors’ of abuse that take place against women.
